Zero , the greatest invention...

The number system being used today was invented by Hindus in India thousands of years ago and was brought to Europe by 900 by Arab traders. They numbers in this system are nine. They are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 to show how many and the zero. It is a decimal system built on the base 10.

Zero is one of man’s greatest inventions. The contribution of India it is a humourously said. But it is a fact that the Hindus who invented number system found Zero In Roman system the mark ‘X’ meant 10 and the latter ‘C’ meant 100. The letter M stood for 1000. I for 1 and V for 5 etc. The invention of zero made it possible to drop the words or marks used to show place value or values.

Actually, counting was the beginning of mathematics. Of course the art of counting took a long time to develop.

Like counting, the ideas of form and its measurement are equally important. The use of geometrical figures has helped mankind in making primitive dwellings.
